This page describes all of Icon Brush's preferences.

Under OSX you access the preferences window in the standard manner from the Icon Brush menu. Under OS 9.x and lower the preferences dialog is accessible from the bottom of the Edit menu.

General
The first preferences category is general preferences. Here you control what Icon Brush does when it opens, the maximum number of undo levels (how many actions you can undo, lower values save disk space) and various other self explanatory options.

Editing
The editing category controls how the Editing Windows behave.
Minimum seconds between undos controls how many seconds must elapse before a new undo state is created when clicking the mouse rapidly. For example if you were using the pen tool to draw many small dots and clicking the mouse rapidly you would not want each dot to be undone separately.
View rectangle visible box indicates weather the checkbox of the same name in editor windows will be checked by default. And finally, you can set the default zoom level if editor windows.
Show icon in dock while editing checkbox will cause the icon currently being editied to appear in the dock (OSX only of course). This allows you to preview your icon in the dock in real time as you edit it.

Saving
The saving category controls how icons will be saved.
If you uncheck the Warn when necessary icon elements are missing box it is possible to save an icon which will not be compatible with the Mac OS. Please read the Icon Info page for details on what elements are necessary. Potential cosmetic problems can cause the icon do display incorrectly on occasion but are usually not serious.
Tell Finder to immediately update icons will cause Icon Brush to send an apple event to the Finder telling it to update the appearance of icons when you save them. You might not want this if you were using Icon Brush in OS9's 'Panels' interface where the Finder is not active.
You can also set the default icon info for new icons.

List View
The new List View category allows you to control the default properties of the List View window.
Minimum icons for list view sets how many icon a file must have before Icon Brush decides to open it in a list window instead of an Overview window.
List View icon size controls the size of each icon as it will appear in the list view.
Default sort method sets what criteria the icon list will initially be sorted by.
Default sort direction is the direction in which the above criteria will be sorted.

Advanced
The new Advanced category currently has only one control. The slider at the top allows you to control the threshold of black and white pixles when dragging an image of depth > 1 into a 1-bit mask element. According to Apple, all non-white pixels in an 8-bit mask should be black in a 1-bit mask. This may be somewhat outdated since I have seen even apple icons that break this rule, so this slider will allow you to control how white (from 0-255) a pixel must be to qualify as white in a 1-bit mask.
